What is Yoga Nidra? Yoga Nidra is a method of guided relaxation and meditative self-inquiry that can take place resting on one’s back, sitting in a chair, or even through slow paced movement.

Each class will incorporate some gentle yoga to help the body release tension and a long 35-minute guided Yoga Nidra practice.

Through visualization and guided relaxation, an experienced facilitator will support you in releasing layers of habitual tension in the body and mind. This process allows a person to access a state of awareness and realm of possibility that lies beyond habitual physical, emotional and/or belief patterns, clearing space for a new and more resilient way of being.

Rooted in the Vedas, Yoga Nidra has been practiced throughout the world for over 1,000 years. Current research has found that a regular practice can effectively support things like:

– Resiliency and moving through creative blocks

– Pain management

– Emotional wellness

– Healing from illness

– Better sleep

Even when we have the best of intentions, as we go about our lives, we can find ourselves periodically out of balance. Spending any amount of time focusing on finding greater balance is useful. In this afternoon together, we have an extended period of time to dedicate to withdrawing from our busy lives and reestablishing balance on levels – body, energy and mind.

We will be using a variety of tools from yoga to find greater harmony within – pranayama (breath work), kriyas (practices to move energy), asanas (postures) and meditation. The posture portion will be a moderate-level blend of energetic/stronger poses and quieter poses (restorative and yin postures). Meditation will include both seated meditation and walking meditation to carry the state achieved in the retreat out into the world.

Attend in person or join via Zoom from a quiet space at home where you can be undisturbed and dedicate yourself fully to the practice. Whether you are practicing in person or at home, silence over the course of the mini retreat will be encouraged, including during the short break in the middle of the practice time.

Sattva Yoga Journey with Cacao – Expanding Consciousness (in-person and online with Julie Hsu, RYT500 Yoga Instructor)

Sunday, May 19, 2024  2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.

At the Wallingford Studio, 1405 North 43rd Street, Seattle, WA and Online

In-Person: $45. Class size is limited to 8 students. Non-refundable registration.

On-Line: $45. 48-hour cancellation policy.

Register for the in-person option at our Punchpass site. In-Person will be held at Wallingford Yoga Studio. (please note, because of the limited class size, in-person registration is non-refundable at the time of reservation)

In the Sattva yoga journey, multiple tools of yoga are put together to create a journey with a theme, making them holistic and potentially transformational experiences. In this particular journey, we will be working with expanding the consciousness to go beyond the individual self. Pranayama, kriyas, meditation and asana will be utilized. Those without experience with kriyas will gain familiarity with the depth these practices offer. They are often repetitive practices, involving movement, the breath, and sometimes mantra. Unlike in drop-in classes, asanas will be simply supportive, used to ground and distribute energy after this deep work.

For this particular Sattva yoga journey, we will have the option of sharing a cacao drink at the beginning together. Using ceremonial cacao can have a powerful effect on expanding the consciousness and creating a very meditative state, further deepening our experience together. This part is completely optional – the practice will still be very effective without the cacao!

In-person attendees will be preparing their optional cacao on-site. Mugs are available for use at the studio, but you may prefer to bring one that is special to you. If you are attending via Zoom, please come between 11:15 and 11:30 am Monday 5/13 or Thursday 5/16 (after Julie’s regular drop-in class) to pick up a packet of cacao to prepare at home. If you are unable to come at that time, please contact Julie to arrange another option. Preparation instructions will be sent ahead of time to those attending via Zoom.
