In these relaxation practices, you will be guided to release layers of habitual tension in the body and mind. This process allows a person to access a state of consciousness that lies beneath habitual physical, emotional and/or belief patterns, clearing space for a new and more resilient way of being. Rooted in the Vedas, Yoga Nidra has been practiced throughout the world for over 1,000 years. Current research has found that a regular practice can effectively support things like:
– Resilience
– Pain management
– Emotional wellness
– Healing from illness and injury
– Better sleep
Christy Fisher has studied and practiced Yoga Nidra for over 20 years and is a Certified Level 2 I Rest Yoga Nidra instructor with renown teacher Richard Miller. She is also a Certified Yoga Therapist with the International Association of Yoga Therapy and a teacher of yoga and somatic based education for over 25 years. To read more about Christy’s background go to our website instructor page.

These classes are available for drop-in, but class size is limited, so reservations are required. In person classes are at the studio of Soma Yoga, 1423 NW 70th Street. These in person classes are available for fully vaccinated students. In person class size will be limited to 8-10 students. Click Studio Covid Protocol to learn more about our studio safety protocol. Everyone is welcome to continue to join our other online zoom classes!!

CLASS DESCRIPTIONS
We offer a variety of gentle and moderate level drop in online yoga and in-person yoga classes in the Hatha and Kripalu Yoga traditions.
GENTLE LEVEL
Our experienced yoga teachers and yoga therapists are experts in working with people who live with chronic pain or health conditions such Osteoporosis, Arthritis, Effects of Cancer Treatment, injuries, or neurological conditions such as Multiple Sclerosis. Our adaptive yoga approach offers plenty of space to work safely at your own pace, and from a yoga mat or a chair. These classes are also great for people who are simply interested in moving at a slower, more relaxed pace! Attention to breathwork, meditation and the spiritual aspects of practice are also emphasized. We are currently holding yoga classes online. Join a wonderful community of other practitioners from the comfort of your own home!
MODERATE LEVEL
A couple of steps up from the gentle practice in terms of strengthening and physical challenge. Teachers work in a developmental manner, beginning with a gentler version of a posture/sequence and building gradually to a more advanced version. There is still plenty of room to modify as needed and permission given to stick with less physically demanding practices. Our teachers are very experienced at adapting movement to meet individual needs. Emphasis is also given to breath, philosophy and the meditative/spiritual aspects of practice.
MODERATE YOGA AND MEDITATION
A Moderate level yoga class that incorporates 1 hour of asanas and 15 minutes of guided meditation.
YOGA FOR RELAXATION
Explore a mix of movement (postures); breath work and meditation to help facilitate relaxation. Postures may include yin, restorative, and others to promote relaxation.
